Dry Iowa

Just as last fall was dry, this spring has continued to be dry. There wasn’t much snowmelt this spring, but some moisture has collected in the bottom of this pond,  that was dug deeper back in 2012.

Basswood Treefrog

A tree frog found a nice short-term home. A small hole in a Basswood tree has given shelter to a tree frog and it comes and goes as it pleases.  Basswood trees typically develop cavity holes in them and house all sorts of wildlife.

Iowa PawPaw

I can’t grow bananas, but can grow a different fruit that is similar. The fruit looks tropical, but these trees have survived subzero weather fine.

Iowa Banana

Growing Musa basjoo hasn’t been some amazing experience for me.  Seems like it is taking off slow in my weather. Will dig up this fall and store it the basement and replant next spring.   Possibly can be overwintered outside in my climate, with a lot of protection.
