Afforestation

Slowly I have been planting more trees in former pasture. I make sure to mix some conifers in for wildlife cover.

Hole in Ground

While checking fence, I noticed a new hole was dug along the fence line. I don’t know what animal dug it, and I wasn’t going to find out.

Black Cherry Flowering

You always can see where the Black Cherries(Prunus Serotina) are when they are flowering. Later in summer, the trees have cherries that the wildlife love to eat.

Wildlife Conversion

As I am building more wildlife habitat, I have noticed a lot more wild animals utilizing the area. This can create more wild meat for me to consume and better represents a functioning permaculture system that I desire.  I hope to have a lot of wild and animal plant resources I can use in my […]

Tornado Lance

I swept through the forest like a tornado, quickly knocking down trees in a block of the woods this month. This has opened up the canopy, and will create a thicket for the wildlife to use as cover compared to the surrounding open woods.

Vernal Pool

I built my first Vernal Pool in the upland of the woods.  It suppose to collect snowmelt and rain runoff and will slowly dry up during the year.   Because they end up drying up, they do not contain fish, so are attractive to things like frogs and toads. This is a good test to see […]

Hinge Cutting

I have been hinge cutting some elms in the woods this month, opening up the canopy. This will bring more sunlight in and give some more cover for wildlife.
