The Ironweed in the photo below has the old flower stalk still attached, while producing new flowers this year. Ironweed is of the Vernonia genus and is a hardy and tough plant.

White Lilac

Most of the Common Lilacs in my windbreak row have purple flowers. There is this lone white Lilac and I need to propagate more of it.

Milk Thistle

The Milk Thistle(Silybum marianum) is an annual and has started flowering from seed planted this spring. It has attractive leaves to go with the purple flowers.  Some parts of the plant is used for medicinal uses.
