Dam Sunflowers

Sunflowers have been growing on the side of the dam. These annual wild plants provide good cover.

Thistle Island

It has rained a lot this month, and right now this island is fully surrounded by water. Currently the island is covered in field thistles(Cirsium discolor).

Dry Iowa

Just as last fall was dry, this spring has continued to be dry. There wasn’t much snowmelt this spring, but some moisture has collected in the bottom of this pond,  that was dug deeper back in 2012.

Domestic Goose Escapee

The neighbor’s goose flew away and has been living on my pond. The cattle are making sure it is not a threat.

Snow Nest

The Canadian Goose is already laying on its nest and now it has snowed.

Iowa Pelicans

This is the first time I saw pelicans stop on our pond. Hopefully in the future I will have larger ponds that attract them more during their migration.
