Chestnut trees flower late, especially this year in early July. The American Chestnut(Castanea dentata) flowers high up in the canopy. The photo above is of a Hybrid Chestnut that has flowers closer to the ground.

Chestnut Flowering
My Hybrid Chestnut tree has been full of flowers this summer. Since there is no other Chestnut flowering near this tree, it will not produce nuts.
