Friendly Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Herons usually fly away when they see me. But there is one that hangs around and ignores me while fishing.

Iowa Blue Heron

The easiest way to attract Herons on my Oasis is to make more bodies of water. The Great Blue Herons are on of the largest birds in the area and love fishing in the ponds.

More Signs of Beaver

I am noticing a lot of Beaver activity. The hind feet of this Beaver are nearly as long as my hand. Beavers have altered the ground below the water, as can be seen in this pic.

Raising Tree Frogs

My Bigfoot Willow water tubs have attracted adult Tree Frogs. These Frogs have laid eggs and a lot of tadpoles have been in the water.  This is the first Tree Frog I have seen that has ventured out of the water.

Beaver Tracks

Beavers have been claiming the pond as their territory. I am finding large foot prints everywhere in the mud.

Vernal Pool Life

Warming temps have caused a lot of vegetative growth in and around the Vernal Pond. This growth has attracted more animal life.

Oasis Islands

I have a couple islands on my ponds so far on my Oasis. This pond dries up often, so the island disappears at times.

Well Test Hole

When it rains a lot, an old test well depression fills up with water. A good reflection happens on this day.

Temporary Deep Water

Some of my vernal pools of water can be pretty deep. This vernal pool can be as deep as 8 feet.  Some years it does not dry up.

Island Reappears

With some good rainfall, the island has reappeared. This island seems to have a fleeting existence.
