Winter Scene

It is only the start of December and it is already beginning to look like Christmas. So far we have escaped any large snow accumulations.

Iced Landscape

Some freezing rain has iced over everything on my Oasis.

Oklahoma Silver Juniper

More noticeable than the plain Eastern Red Cedar species, the Oklahoma Silver Red Cedar has silvery-blue foliage. This cultivar should work good in my Western Iowa location.

Rose Arborvitae

While the Arborvitae is staying a consistent green, the native Rose behind it is stunning in color. Both of these plants add different elements for wildlife.

One or the Other

Soon a Red Oak will have to be cut back or it will over top this White Spruce. For now I leave the Red Oak, as it gives something for a deer to rub on.

Pinyon Pine

Pinyon Pine’s new growth is very noticeable. This pine has been slow growing for me.

Blue Berries

The Red Cedar has blue fruit that is consumed by birds. The birds have helped spread these trees all over.

Baltimore Oriole

When I am picking cherries, a Baltimore Oriole comes around making noise at me. She has a nest of babies in the nearby Bella di Giugno Pear tree.

Norway Spruce Cultivars

There are many different Spruce cultivars a person can grow. This is a Norway Spruce that has reddish new growth.
